Access Rights

These set the limits to what you see and what you can do on the Learning Platform web site. Teachers, Students and Administrators have different rights.

Administrator
A member of staff with highest level of Access Rights.
Assessments

Quizzes devised using Learning Platform tools (eg missing words, multiple choice)

Chat
One of the Learning Platform's inbuilt Collaboration Tools - used globally across the whole school or locally within a Course.
Class
All Students enrolled on a Course. If a Course is shared across a Year Group then the Class can quickly contain over 100 students. Workgroups are an important way of defining smaller groups of Students.
Collaboration Tools
Learning Platform's tools for Forums, eMail and Chat.
Content
Material put into Learning Platform by a teacher for students to use. This might be teacher-authored; it might be commercially bought; it might be a Testwise Test .

Course

A unit of work for which teachers have combined content and Learning Platform Assessment and Collaboration tools - could be one lesson or could be a term's work.
eMail
One of the Learning Platform inbuilt Collaboration Tools - used globally across the whole school or locally within a Course. This is a limited email tool and does not provide proper one-to-one mail facilities.
Forum
One of the Learning Platform inbuilt Collaboration Tools - a bulletin board used globally across the whole school or locally within a Course.
Learning Log
Area of Learning Platform which allows teachers to track student progress in a variety of ways. An electronic mark-book.
Owner
We set up a single Owner of Courses - the school - for each site. Others are possible, though their effect is purely cosmetic.
PIM
Personal Information Manager - home page of the Learning Platform web site - some aspects are configured by the Administrator; others are set by the User .
Quiz
Teacher-authored, end of unit, local assessment using one of Learning Platform's inbuilt assessment tools (Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blanks, etc)
Student
A user with Access Rights more limited than those of Tutor or Administrator.
Teacher
A Tutor.
Tutor
A Teacher with Access Rights greater than those of the Student, but more restricted than those of the Administrator.
Workgroup

A subdivision of the total Class of Students enrolled on a Course. This may be just a couple of students or it might be a complete teaching group within the school.
